Did You Know...
Born at Harbour Grace in 1843, Sir Thomas Roddick graduated from McGill University medical school in 1868. He served as dean of the faculty of medicine at McGill from 1901 to 1908. Roddick was instrumental in introducing legislation that led to the creation of the Medical Council of Canada and a system of certification examinations for physicians that applied across Canada. When the Council was created in 1912, Roddick’s name was the first entered in the register. The hospital at Stephenville is named in his honour.
